<mods:abstract>“The State Boys’ Camps of the Young Men’s Christian Association of North American: Treating the Origin, Development and Growth” (1917) is Clarence Philip Hammerstein’s senior thesis, which was completed while attending the International YMCA College, now known as Springfield College. The original pictures were digitized, but no longer exist outside of this file. The thesis has seven parts: the introduction, purpose, summer activities of the boys’ department preceding the origin of state boys’ camps, the first state boys’ camp, scenes from camp Dudley, organization of state boys’ camps from 1898 – 1916, modern methods of state boys’ camps, and the state boys’ camp development (retrospect and prospect). Hammerstein writes in the introduction that “the purpose of this thesis [. . .] is to discover as many pertinent facts as possible concerning the early history and development of the State Boys’ Camps and treat briefly, the more recent developments.”. The pictures in this thesis were originally digitized, but no longer exist outside this file; Old File Names of photographs scanned are listed in the Old File Name Field;</mods:abstract>
