Springfield College Then and Now lecture (October 25, 2013)

This video shows a lecture by Diane Potter and Kathleen Mangano from Springfield College’s Symposium on Girls and Women in Sports. The symposium was held in conjunction with the celebration of fifty years of women’s varsity athletics at Springfield College and was held during homecoming weekend (October 25-26, 2013). Craig Poisson, Springfield College’s senior associate director of athletics, gives the introduction. He describes the accomplishments of Coach Diane Potter and Coach Kathy Mangano, and he introduces Mimi Murray. Murray speaks at even greater depth about the accomplishments of Potter and Mangano. The two coaches present a lecture called “Springfield College Then and Now: Life as a Student, Teacher/Coach, & Administrator.” Potter begins by introducing the older athletes in attendance, many of whom represent the first seasons of women’s athletics at the college. She then recounts the history of women’s athletics at the college, from 1951 to the 1980s. Her history primarily focuses on coaches, faculty, and administrators. Mangano then describes the history from the 1980s to the present day. Mangano and her powerpoint presentation are both out of the camera’s frame for the majority of her talk. Murray closes the lecture by thanking the audience and the speakers.
