SC Gymnastics Exhibition Team Poster, Municipal Auditorium
Description:
A poster for the Springfield College Gymnastics Exhibition Team, which performed on at 8 p.m. on February 24 at the Municipal Auditorium. Although we do not know this show's location or the exact year, it may have been a Springfield College Homeshow, the show the team performed in Springfield Massachusetts after returning from all their performances on the road. Tickets were sold for seventy-five cents, fifty-five cents, and forty cents, depending on the seats. High School students were allowed in for thirty cents. The poster includes a quote from LIFE Magazine describing the performance as “Beauty + Rhythm + Thrills.” This poster design was frequently reused to advertise the team’s other shows. Under the leadership of Professor Leslie J. Judd, the purpose of the Springfield College Exhibition team was to promote and maintain an interest in gymnastics, the dance, and the artistic phases of physical education in schools, colleges, YMCAs, and recreational centers. The Exhibition Team has appeared before thousands of spectators in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In 1941, the team appeared before thirty-five-thousand spectators in twenty-five cities. Scale is not 1:1 because item was digitized using a Canon EOS Rebel T1i. Original size is listed in the extent field.
