First DGWS Gymnastics Championships Program (March 1969)

Springfield College produced this pamphlet for the very first DGWS National Intercollegiate Gymnastic Championships for Women, held March 6-8, 1969 at Springfield College. Springfield College won the event, becoming the first intercollegiate champion! The pamphlet includes information about housing, administrative personnel, entry fees, scheduling, eligibility, rules, awards, judging, floor exercise music, equipment, transportation, churches, procedures, and the final banquet. et. The meet’s director was Mimi Murray, a faculty member at Springfield College and a nationally-renowned coach. Other persons who assisted with the event’s organization were Margaret A. Thorsen, Edward S. Steitz, Frank Wolcott, Diane Potter, Katherine Ley, Frances McGill, Fances Schaafsma, Maria Sexton, and Kitty Kjeldsen. The only photographs in the pamphlet are of the Springfield College gymnastics. The Division for Girls’ and Women’s Sports (DGWS) was the predecessor of the Association for Intercollegiate Athl. Undigitized duplicates exist.
