<mods:abstract>This photograph displays a Springfield College women's diver, diving into the Linkletter Natatorium pool during the 1984-1985 season. The 1984-1985 women's swimming and diving team was coached by Mary Ellen Olcese (head swimming coach) and Peter Avdoulos (head diving coach). The team finished the season with a 3-7-0 record. Olcese coached for 4 seasons (1981-85) and finished her career with a win-loss record of 17-25-1and a winning percentage of .407. Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions. Avdoulos is a 1985 Springfield College graduate and was a standout diver for Springfield as an undergraduate. He received the Charles Batterman Award as the top New England performer over a four-year period. Avdoulos has been the NCAA Division III Women’s Diving Coach of the Year four times. He has been selected as the New England Diving Coach of the Year eight times since 1991, and was named both the NEWMAC Men’s and Women’s Diving Coach of the Year for the 2002-2003 season and the 2012 and 2013 campaigns.</mods:abstract>
