<mods:abstract>This postcard advertises the Rede Tropical de Hoteis (tran. Network of Tropical Hotels) located in Brazil. There are three pictures on the front: the first shows an aerial view of the Cataratas Hotel, the second shows the Itaipu hydroelectric power plant, and the third shows the Iguazu Falls. This item is from page 12 of the Alberto Regina scrapbook - http://cdm16122.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p15370coll2/id/4199. The Cataratas Hotel, recently restored by Orient-Express Hotels, was built sometime between 1939-1958. It is the only hotel inside the Iguaçu National Park (Paraná, Brazil). The postcard was published by Varig (Viação Aérea RIo-Grandense), Brazil’s first airline. Although Varig spent roughly twenty-five years as Brazil's leading international airline, it split in 2006 into two companies: one was integrated into Gol Airlines and the other is defunct. The Itaipu dam is located on the Paraná River and produces the most annual energy generation of any hydroelectric facility. The dam’s construction was a project jointly undertaken by Brazil Paraguay. The Iguazu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of Brazil and Argentina. On November 11, 2011, the New 7 Wonders of the World Foundation announced that Iguazu Falls was announced as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. For biographical information on Alberto Regina, see: https://springfield.as.atlas-sys.com/agents/people/140. There is an undigitized duplicate.</mods:abstract>
