<mods:abstract>This photograph shows six men in line at the Fort Benjamin Army YMCA in 1918. Left to right, the men and the departments they are affiliated with are: Paul Gaskans (educational), C. H. Boughton, Russell S. Puckett (recreational), W. B. Taylor (religious), M. Wheul (business), and W. E. Jenney (social). Including Puckett's wartime service at the International YMCA College school of Associated War Work, he served a number of different YMCAs during a forty-year YMCA career. Fort Benjamin Harrison was a US Army post located in suburban Lawrence, Indiana, northeast of Indianapolis. It is named for the 23rd United States President, Benjamin Harrison. Land was purchased in 1903, with the post being officially named for President Harrison in honor of Indianapolis being his hometown. Fort Benjamin Harrison saw its highest level of activity during World War I and World War II. The Fort was the site of the Athletes' Villages for the 1987 Pan American Games. New barracks were built to house the athletes just before the games kicked off. Those barracks were torn down a few years after the base was closed. Photograph donated along with World War I uniform belonging to Russell S. Puckett by Shirley P. Blair - acquisition number Z10-159; Photograph is a facsimile of original;</mods:abstract>
