First Softball Team Photo at Springfield College, 1969
Description:
Here is one of the first team photographs ever taken of the softball team at Springfield College. The photograph was taken in 1969. Thanks to the help of Charlotte Wright, most players in the photograph were identified. Players on the front row from left to right were: Jan Merrick, Pam Prentiss Perrone, Diane Armet, Judy Bridges, Charlotte Phelps Wright, Sheila Bewsee; players standing behind from left to right were: Ginny Cishek (assistant coach), Sally Maish, Chris Vader, Linda McFarland, Janet Beran, Carol ("Tau") Lowman, Jan Luchsinger, Jo Palumbo, Deb Morgan Otto, Bonnie Bucketts, Diane Potter (coach). Diane Potter, standing, far right, created the team in the 1963-1964 season as an extramural squad. Jeanne Farrel who also played with the team is missing in this photograph. Coach Potter was considered to be a leading pioneer for softball in the New England area. The Softball field at Springfield College was recognized and dedicated to Coach Diane Potter and was named Potter Field. In 1989, she became the second woman inducted into the Springfield College Athletics Hall of Fame, and during that academic year, she served as the Springfield Distinguished Professor of Humanics.
