<mods:abstract>A business card with note from Marvin Bragdon Rideout to Laurence L. Doggett with no date included. In the note, Rideout writes that he believes enclosed information may be of interest to Doggett. Enclosed information was not attached to the business card. The business card is in Italian and translates into English as, "Secretary General for Italy Of The Prisoner-of-War Assistance Service Of the World Alliance of Associations Christian Youth". Melvin B. Rideout was born on May 15, 1871 in Illinois. Graduate of Springfield College, then the International YMCA Training School, Class of 1893, Rideout is credited with introducing basketball to England while serving as a French delegate at the YMCA Jubilee Convention in June 1984. He spent five years as the physical director of the Association in Paris, France, and the following three years as a field secretary doing special organizing work in Europe. From 1899 until 1905, he served at a YMCA in Washington, D.C. as a physical director. Rideout died on November 26, 1957. Doggett was Springfield College's fourth president. He was also the first full-time president and served in the position from 1896-1936. Under Doggett's leadership, Springfield College expanded its student body and faculty. Doggett also oversaw the building of a new gymnasium, library, swimming pool, and athletics. Doggett was instrumental in developing and implementing the College's Humanics philosophy which still guides the college to this day. He retired in 1936 and remains Springfield College's longest-tenured president. Dr. Laurence L. Doggett died in 1957 at the age of 92.</mods:abstract>
