  <mods:abstract>A Springfield College Sports News news release titled "Dr. Edward S. Steitz Announces plans to step down as athletic director" and dated February 6, 1989. The news release talks about how Steitz will go on Sabatical and then remain as a professor of physical education until his official retirement in July of 1991. Dr. Steitz died on May 21, 1990. The release also talks about his career at Springfield College and Basketball, especially outlining his involvement in Basketball Rules changes.
