  <mods:abstract>Springfield College released this document, which states their “policies regarding co-curricular sports activities for Springfield College Women,” on March 4, 1964. The document is broken into four activities: purposes, participants, leadership, and conduct of activities. The women’s athletic programs were available to any full-time student and led by the Director of Women’s Athletics. This was the first year, 1963-64, for women’s varsity athletics (i.e. “advanced team competition”) at the school. Varsity athletics was characterized by “try-outs, regular practices, systematic coaching, and planned seasonal schedules.” According to the document, varsity sports could be expanded based on participation in and response to current offerings.
