Letter from Dr. Elmer Berry to Dr. Charles H. McCloy (March 4, 1936)

This is a letter from Dr. Elmer Berry, a Springfield College (then known as International YMCA College) faculty member, to Dr. Charles H. McCloy of University of Iowa, regarding Springfield College alumnus Ferenc (Frank) Hepp's credit hours for graduation (March 4, 1936). This letter is in response to letters sent by Dr. McCloy and Hepp on February 14, 1936. In this letter, Dr. Berry explained the complication of counting credit hours from abroad as graduate hours and expressed support to speed up Hepp's graduation process. Ferenc (Frank) Hepp received a B.S. degree in 1935 and an M.Ed. degree in 1936 from Springfield College, and a PhD degree from University of Iowa. He served as Director of the Royal Hungarian Physical Education Department, President of the Hungarian College of Physical Education and later Chairman of the Hungarian Scientific Research Association for Physical Education and Sports. In the mid 1950’, he founded the Hungarian Scientific Council of Physical Education and Sport and subsequently founded and directed the Hungarian Scientific Research Institute of Physical Education and Sport. “Frank” has been a member of the Hungarian Olympic Committee and President of the Hungarian National Basketball Federation. On the international level, he has been associated with the International Amateur Basketball Federation and is a life member of the AAHPER. He has published about 150 professional and scientific publications in the field of physical education, sport, and sport psychology, including the “Olympic Sports Dictionary” in four languages. Dr. Hepp received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Springfield College in 1980. He was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor in 1981.
