Springfield College Baseball film (1961) Moore Johnson Hitting AIC
Description:
This is a 16mm black and white film showing numerous Springfield College hitters standing at home plate. It is believed to be filmed during 1961. The film is about 2 and a half minutes long. The film mainly focuses on two players who appear to have the last names Johnson and Moore. Archie Moore graduated in 1963 and played baseball, but it is unclear what the first name of the player named Johnson is. In the film, a pitcher throws the baseball to the catcher at home plate, with the hitter standing in the batter's box next to the plate and the umpire standing behind the catcher directly behind the plate. Every batter is thrown numerous pitches in the video, and most of the time, the batter does not swing at the pitch. However, the clip also shows many of the players making contact with the baseball and running to first base. There are fielders, and in one instance a player fields a baseball hit and throws it to first base before the batter arrives, meaning the batter is out. Some of the batters also appear to achieve walks as they don't swing at four pitches and then begin trotting towards first base. Overall, the film shows numerous players standing in the batter's box attempting to hit pitches thrown to home plate by the pitcher. Some of the batters get hits, some walk, and some are thrown out over the course of the video. The sticker on the reel says "Moore Johnson Hitting AIC."; Film Technician note: Slightly shrunken.
