A letter from Laurence L. Doggett to H.J. Harriman written on July 1, 1919. In the letter, Doggett informs Harriman of how they had a reunion for Springfield men that served in the war and a memorial for those who passed, including their son Paul L. Harriman. He offers that Mrs. Harriman can send some of her son's materials to the school because of a large incoming class in the fall. Doggett was Springfield College's fourth president. He was also the first full-time president and served in the position from 1896-1936. Under Doggett's leadership, Springfield College expanded its student body and faculty. Doggett also oversaw the building of a new gymnasium, library, swimming pool, and athletics. Doggett was instrumental in developing and implementing the College's Humanics philosophy which still guides the college to this day. He retired in 1936 and remains Springfield College's longest-tenured president. Dr. Laurence L. Doggett died in 1957 at the age of 92. Paul L. Harriman did not graduate from Springfield College. He joined the Ambulance corps and died a month and 2 days after arriving at the camp for training from a case of the measles.
