The photograph shows James Carson, a Springfield College (then known as International YMCA Training School) alumnus, sitting in his dorm room and reading something that looks like a letter. The room is decorated with photographs and plants. According to Carson's grandchild, who is the donor of this photograph, Carson's autobiography says that he was assigned a room in Woods Hall. James Morley Carson is a member of class 1910. He is from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Enrolled in Springfield College (then known as International YMCA Training School) in 1907, Carson served as Class President in his junior year, involved in the Debate Team and the Treasurer School Club, and worked as an Assistant Editor for the Massasoit. He was also president for the British Society and the Senate. He served as secretary of the YMCA in Quebec City from 1909 to 1915, became manager of the Mutual Life Insurance Company at Saint John in 1928, and held the post until 1947. James Carson passed on Nov. 9, 1968. Archives does not have the original physical item. The photo was scanned and small tiff file was sent by donor. At acquisition, file was printed and put into the student folder, and jpg file was made.
