<mods:abstract>This newspaper article is titled, 'Springfield College Building Cleared: 18 Face Trespass Charges' written by John Okai and published in the April 7, 1970 Springfield Union newspaper. The article is two pages long. The article discusses the occupation of the administration building. These 18 white students were protesting the hearings for the 49 black students found guilty for the Massasoit Hall occupation. Dean Costello tried to ask students to leave before notifying the police. Police officers entered the building and carried the students out after they refused to leave on their own. The college student body voted to make bail available and bail for the 16 students who were in the building was set to $200 each student. The other two students charged with breach of the peace in connection with the incident bail was set to $500 each. There are two images in the newspaper of a police officer dragging a student out of the administration building and another of over 1200 students meeting to vote on bail in the Springfield College field house. This newspaper article is cut out of the newspaper and glued to yellow-lined paper. Materials contained within this scrapbook were removed from the original physical scrapbook due to preservation issues. Most documents were originally glued to the pages of the scrapbook, but the glue was failing and the documents were becoming loose and were falling out of the scrapbook. Documents may already have lost their original order and/or may have been lost due to this damage. The damage was getting worse with every use. Therefore, to protect the documents and to facilitate use of the documents, the documents were remove. The documents were left in the order that they were found at the time of removal.; Was also glued to yellow notebook paper, but this became detached and was discarded since it contained no additional information.;</mods:abstract>
