Letter to Jacob T. Bowne regarding Eugene Libby (February 3, 1890)
Description:
This is a letter to Jacob T. Bowne, head of the Secretarial Department of Springfield College (then YMCA Training School), from Henry McCoy, general secretary of San Francisco YMCA. The letter mentioned SC alumnus Eugene Libby. McCoy said in the letter that he did not know Libby much and asked their state secretary Mr. Mead to write a recommendation for Libby. Eugene S. Libby is a member of Class 1892 of Springfield College (then known as International YMCA Training School). He was a member of the first men to ever play the game of basketball in 1891. Libby was born April 28, 1864 in Gardiner, Maine. After graduation, he opened his real estate business in Redlands, California which he operated until his death on September 1, 1948. He was a member of the Redlands Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Membership Committee.
