Dr. Parks leads a group of Black Students from the Administration Building (May 14, 1969)

A newspaper clipping from the Springfield Daily News showing a photograph of Springfield College faculty member, Jesse L. Parks, PhD, leading a group of Black student protesters out of the Administration Building. The students occupied the building for 12 hours to protest the prejudices suffered by the Black community and lack of response to their demands. Two young men at the front of the group are giving the closed-fist “Black Power Salute.” Other SC students formed a cordon for the protesters to cross the campus. The clipping was published on May 15, 1969. The event took place on May 14, 1969.
