A photograph of Springfield College alum and Queens College head women's basketball coach, Lucille Kyvallos, on the sideline during a basketball game. Ms. Kyvallos is standing with the players sitting on the bench and spectators behind her. The photograph is taken from the end of the basketball court from the floor. Lucille Kyvallos graduated from Springfield College in 1955. She is regarded as one of the pioneers of women's basketball in collegiate sports. She was the head coach of the Women's Basketball team at Queens College from 1968 through 1981, holding an overall record of 239-77. In 1973 she led Queens to the championship game before falling to Immaculata University 65-61. In 1975 a rematch of this game was played in Madison Square Garden, marking the first women's basketball game to be played in the arena. Kyvallos also served as coach for the United States in the 1977 World University Games, winning a silver medal. This image was donated to the Archives from the SC Athletic Department. It was donated as an electronic file. The photograph was printed out and a physical copy was placed into the Student File. The original copy of this photographic print does not currently exist in the Archives. This image and perhaps other images of Kyvallos came from Queens College.
