  <mods:abstract>This is a photograph of a drawing created by Jim Trelease created called the "'Pitchin' totem pole." The drawing has the busts of three Springfield College pitchers, Tom Badcock, Jerry DePalma, and George Dixon, carved in the totem pole with a Native American standing on the head of Tom Badcock saying "Me hope this pitchin totem pole tower over NCAA regionals like it did for Chiefs in regular season (17-6). The drawing appears to have been created during the 1971 Springfield College baseball season. It has the records of each pitcher right next to their names. Because the team finished with a record of 22-6 and Trelease says the team was 17-6 heading into the playoffs, it appears that the team may have won the NCAA regional tournament in 1971. The team finished the season with an overall record of 22 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie in Archie Allen's 24th season as Head coach. Allen went on to coach for 7 more seasons before finishing his 31 season long coaching career with an overall record of 454 wins, 257 losses, and 7 ties, a winning percentage of .637.</mods:abstract>
