Description:
A three-page letter from Edward M. Ryan to Laurence L. Doggett dated June 16th, 1919. In this letter, Ryan tells Doggett some of his experiences after doing war work since 1914. He also requested that Doggett write back to him, evaluating his abilities as a boys man. Edward M. Ryan (1878-1970) was born in Stretford, Manchester, England. He was a graduate of the class of 1911 He was known affectionatly as "The Major" by the fellows at the YMCA in Wellington New Zealand where he spent his time before and after his war service. He served in three wars in the British Army, the Boer War, World War I, and World War II. During the First World War he served as a Y.M.C.A. field secretary at Awapuni and Trentham camps in France; and in the Second World War he served as an officer of the Wellington Y.M.C.A., which gave shelter to thousands of troops. He died in 1970.
