Women Gymnasts Form Olympic Ring Formation (1962-1966)
Description:
Five women gymnasts who all appear to be members of the Springfield College women's gymnastics team pose for a photo with each holding a ring in their hands. The five women are forming the Olympic ring formation, which can be seen directly behind them on the wall. It appears that the photo was taken between 1962 and 1966 as the women in the bottom left corner of the photo has been identified as Kathy Corrigan, who was a gymnast at Springfield College from the years 1962-1966. A couple of the other gymnasts also appear to match to a large group photo taken of the men's and women's gymnastics team in 1964, but their names are not identified. Kathy Corrigan (class of 1966) was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1992 and competed in the 1964 Olympic Games. During her senior year, she was captain of the gymnastics team and competed on the exhibition team. She was the first woman inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame. Corrigan won gold at the Pan-American Games and spent three years on the USA gymnastics team. She earned her masters of education from Penn State in 1968. The back of the photograph says B.L. Corrigan. The Corrigan aspect of this led to the discovery of one of the gymnasts as being Kathleen Corrigan, but it is unclear what the B.L. means.
