<mods:abstract>This is a typed copy of "The Report on the Character of New York Public School Boys," by Luther Halsey Gulick, the director of Physical Training for the Public Schools of New York, that was sent to Dr. William H. Maxwell, the New York City Superintendent of Schools, on July 11, 1904. It includes a statement by Mr. Maxwell dated July 12, 1904 and was sent to the editors of newspapers. The report talks about students attending the first National Athletic Competition of the Public Schools of North America that was held during the 1904 St. Louis World Fair that also was the site for the 1904 Olympics. Topics he brings up includes the results, the effects and meaning it had to attend, and how they handled themselves during the competition.
