Item Information
- Title:
- Scrapbook: International YMCA College War Records of Alumni & Faculty
- Description:
-
This is a scrapbook that contains war records from World War I from various alumni and faculty at Springfield College, at the time known as the International YMCA College. There are a total of 86 pages in the scrapbook containing documents from around 75 alumni. In total there are 220 files. Documents are mostly letters from the students in response to a request for information and photographs from Assistant Librarian Georgiana Carr. Responses to these letters contain mostly outlines of their service during World War I. In addition to these documents there are some photographs and newspaper articles concerning the Alum and their work. Some alum sent reports they wrote or are copies of Letters sent home or to other faculty at Springfield College. All aspects of World War I service are represented, including YMCA War Work, fighting with the US Army and British forces, work down on the homefront here, in Canada, and in the United Kingdom. Issues of Health and welfare of students, military training, and trench warfare are addressed. The scrapbook was put together by the librarians at Springfield College, including Jacob Bowne and Georgiana Carr. Scrapbook is bound individual sheets of dark, heavy paper. Letters, newspaper articles, and other documents have been affixed to these pages using pins or are just placed between the bound pages. Essentially there is a page for each student and there can be mulitple items held on this page. To maintain the feel of the scrapbook, for pages with multiple items, or an item with multiple pages, the whole page has been scanned and then each page, including the front page, has been scanned individually. This then will cause some repeat in appearance between pages. Text for that item will be connected only with the item and not the scrapbook page. In addition, the title for each item or page within item will have the page number of the scrapbook in the title.;
